Jason Knutzen, colorist, specializes in bridging visual storytelling skills with the creative power of post-production color grading. His clients include Universal Studios, Walt Disney Studios, Lionsgate, Netflix, Paramount, HBO, Vice Media and many more. With numerous feature film & episodic credits under his belt, along with countless shorts, music videos, web series, documentaries - his films have premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, Tribeca and more. Jason is also one of few colorists who specialize in Virtual Reality post-production. His work in Virtual Reality can be seen on Samsung Gear VR as the lead colorist for VR concerts by Coldplay, Guns N’ Roses, U2, and many other musical acts & festival shows.
Jason Knutzen’s work as Cinematographer spans many feature films, shorts, documentaries, music videos, virtual reality and experimental film projects. His work on the feature documentary Mudbloods premiered on Netflix. As a Director of Photography, Jason has lensed a wide range of projects across various genres, including action-packed feature film Kiss Kiss and sci-fi action thriller Ink & Rain, emotional family drama Love Goes Through Your Mind and short film Owen, as well as working in documentary features with California’s Forgotten Children and nature documentary Wild Ones.
When not behind the camera or in the color suite, Jason shares his experience and knowledge with the next generation of upcoming filmmakers and industry professionals. He has developed a series of uniquely specialized courses on cinematography and color correction for UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television and UCLA Extension, and developed additional curriculums while serving on the faculty of Global Cinematography Institute. Jason’s lectures on the collaborative power of cinematography and color correction have been delivered worldwide for the IMAGO World Federation of Cinematographers, IATSE Local 669 Camera Union in Vancouver, CineGear Expo, and others.
